Each month throughout the year, Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ exhibits the work of one or more fine artists with local ties. Paintings by CC Caldwell of Sanibel will be on view in the church's Fellowship Hall throughout December.

Caldwell, a lifelong artist, says her work has always taken on new dimensions as her surroundings have changed. Living in a tropical paradise entices her to, as she says, "spend day after day sketching and painting the pristine beauty of a splendid environment."

Seascapes and landscapes are her predominant themes. She works primarily in oils, and occasionally uses acrylics or watercolors. She delights in creating vivid, lifelike canvases that, she explains, "capture not only the place, but the experience of being there."

It is said that in looking at a CC Caldwell painting, you can feel the warmth of the sun or the breeze that rustles the palm fronds or hear the lap of waves against the island beach.

Caldwell also does commission work for hospitals, medical offices, and homes. She creates prints and greeting cards, as well.

Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ is located at 2050 Periwinkle Way. The paintings are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the church. The exhibit may be seen during office hours when Fellowship Hall is not otherwise being used and on Sundays after the 7:45, 9, and 11 a.m. services.
