    A stunning chamber music ensemble from the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston treated Islanders to a one-of-a-kind musical experience, March 12 at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ. Brought to the Island via the auspices of the Sanibel Music Festival, the group performed repertoire from vibrant corners of the Baroque repertoire on period instruments and authentic reproductions of period instruments.

  • Bank of the Islands Promotes SCCF Art Drawing

    Art lovers are encouraged to stop by Bank of the Islands’ Sanibel office to view a signed limited print of the late Ikki Matsumoto's "Six Dolphins.” Matsumoto has been recognized posthumously as the 2018-2019 Prize Recipient for the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation “Ding” Darling Brush of Excellence Environmental Art Program. It will be on display at the bank through March 14 and will travel to the Lions Club Arts & Crafts Fair March 15-16 at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way.

  • Acclaimed Astralis Ensemble Performing On Captiva

    The Captiva Civic Association presents the Astralis Ensemble, an innovative and dynamic ensemble performing with much acclaim across the globe. The ensemble trio is composed of Angela Massey (Flute), Troy Chang (Cello) and Katherine Siochi (Harp). This “At Dusk” Concert features works by Arthur Foote, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frédéric Chopin, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Camille Saint-Saëns and Maurice Ravel.
  • Local, International Contemporary Art On Display At Captiva Civic Center

    The Captiva Civic Association will present “Island Contemporary,” a group exhibition highlighting local and international contemporary art works by critically acclaimed and historical relevant master artists, alongside local and emerging talents. This show is a museum style fine art exhibition brought back for a fifth year at the Captiva Civic Center. All exhibiting art works are available for purchase with a portion of proceeds from works sold going to benefit the Captiva Civic Association.

Phillips Gallery will host “Lifecycles,” the works of award-winning artist Sue Pink, and Founders Gallery will feature “Homage to the Square,” an open juried show featuring artists from around the country.

    Music is in the air as the BIG ARTS Community Chorus gears up for their spring concerts March 14-15 at BIG ARTS Schein Hall. The Chorus, which is made up of local members of the Southwest Florida Community, will be performing a diverse line up of classic mainstays and contemporary favorites. The Chorus, which does not require auditions, is open to people from all walks of life regardless of whether.
  • R.S. Walsh Landscaping Announces Winner of February Photo Contest

    The winner of R.S. Walsh Landscaping’s February photo contest is Laurie Hafener. The theme of the contest was “Life in the Mangroves.” Submitted photos were posted on R.S. Walsh’s In The Garden Facebook and Instagram pages and at the company’s Sanibel garden center.  Visitors to the Facebook and Instagram pages and the garden center were able to vote on their favorites. Hafener’s photo received the most votes. She said this was the perfect place for a time out…Sanibel’s mangroves! She will receive a $50 gift certificate to In The Garden and her photo will be printed in local newspapers. Honorable mentions go to Kathryn Brintnall, Mary Carella and Kim Short.
  • Renowned Artist Shares Thoughts On Exhibit

    The island is buzzing with talk of renowned artist Todd Andrew Babb’s exhibit “Vagrant: The Process of Being,” which debuted in BIG ARTS Phillips Gallery. The show, which Babb designed specifically for the space in Phillips Gallery, featured all new works by the artist. Before the reception Babb gave a moving artist talk as he discussed his inspiration, process and what this show means to him.  
  • Douglas David Paints Seascapes and Florals Art Exhibition & Opening Reception

    The Captiva Civic Association presents “Douglas David Paints Seascapes and Florals” Art Exhibition & Opening Reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Captiva Civic Center, Chapin Lane. The Reception will feature new works of the well-known local artist and include live music, a donation bar and light hors d'oeuvres.
