Realtor Sarah Ashton, Re/Max of the Islands, hosted her annual Welcome Back Social in partnership with Jack Thomas and Trevor Swartz of Hightower Investments. The evening was a celebratory get together at the beautiful Sanctuary Club House combined with a donation drive for the valuable F.I.S.H. of SANCAP Food Pantry.

We were thrilled to help our neighbors who have been so heavily affected by the recent marine disaster that affected our community,” said Ashton of collecting an overflowing barrel of non-perishable food and $365 in cash for the food pantry. “F.I.S.H. provides critical services to all of us and it’s great to help out.”

In 2017, the F.I.S.H. Food Pantry was visited by more than 760 families and distributed more than 151,000 pounds of food. This year, Sanibel and Captiva Islands have been plagued by intense red tide in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as blue-green algae in the area – all of which deeply impacted the local tourism economy. It has left many out of work or hours severely shortened by employers who are struggling through the disaster.

It’s been a particularly tough summer for our Food Pantry, as we have seen so many new households seeking assistance due to the red tide and blue-green algae disaster,” said F.I.S.H. President & CEO Maggi Feiner. “”It’s been quite difficult to keep our shelves stocked with so many needing a hand up. The food collection and donations by Sarah will really help out our neighbors.”

Ashton’s eagerness to find ways to support F.I.S.H. is an integral part of the success of the Food Pantry, Feiner says. “F.I.S.H. and our clients greatly appreciate Sarah’s generosity and thoughtfulness in holding a food collection,” she said.
