The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club and Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ will hold a Meals of Hope packing event at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Sanibel Community House – the community coming together to end hunger.

Meals of Hope is the largest domestic hunger relief organization in the country and an event, such as this, helps to fight hunger and food insecurity for American families. It’s especially important in tragically impacted areas of the United States hit by recent hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, environmentally affected areas, and job insecurity.

Rotarians, SCUCC members, and community volunteers are needed at this assembly-line type event to package 25,000 meals designated for distribution to recent hurricane hit areas. Events like this are held throughout the country and meals are distributed by the Feeding America Food Bank Network to not only tragically hit areas but food banks, food pantries, and economically depressed areas.

This is a volunteer opportunity for anyone of any age. Join Rotary and SCUCC members for just a couple of hours. Anyone who would like to volunteer should call SCUCC at 239-472-0497 or stop by the church office, 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. All volunteers must sign-up in advance by Wednesday, Nov. 7.
