When it comes to shells, Sanibel is the place to be. At least that's what someone told Mary Robertson.

So Robertson came to the Sanibel Shell Festival from Jacksonville to see what it was all about and now she is back each year at the Sanibel Shell Festival.

She had made some things with shells.

I wanted to see what was going on, I wanted to see if I could do it,” she said.

It turns out she could and still can. She came to Sanibel eight years ago with some things she had made, entered the Shell Show and won blue ribbons.

That was really quite a surprise, so I kept at it. Now, I've got plenty of blue ribbons. I want to sell my things,”

Sell she does at the 78 edition of the world famous Sanibel Shell Show Thursday, March 5, through Saturday, March 7, at the Sanibel Community House on Periwinkle Way. She's one of several exclusive vendors inside the Sanibel Community House and she sells her shell-laced creations aside the Shell Show for Scientific and Artistic exhibits.

Mirrors, pictures frames, jewelry and more, all with a distinctive touch one can see at a distance and up close is all Mary Robertson's. Two of her mirrors are in Ritz-Carlton hotels.

I'm very proud of that,” she said, noting that she's making smaller mirrors now that aren't so heavy.

One of them went out the door with a happy Shell Festival visitor, and customer, as she spoke.

My creations are reasonably priced,” she said. “I want them to move.”
