Dr. Bruce Neill teaches students about red tide at Bunche Beach.
In February and March, Sanibel Sea School will offer two special opportunities to learn about the harmful algal blooms that have affected Sanibel and surrounding areas recently. Dr. Bruce Neill, the organization's executive director who is also a knowledgeable marine biologist, will give a talk about the science behind algal blooms including red tide, and will suggest ways for individuals to help solve our water quality challenges.

After the talk, there will be an optional field trip to Bunche Beach Preserve in Fort Myers for an exploratory beach walk, with transportation provided. Offered from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 20 and March 20, cost is $10 per person, call (239) 472-8585 to RSVP. Sanibel Sea School is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to improve the ocean's future, one person at a time. To learn more, visit www.sanibelseaschool.org
