The first meeting for the 2018-19 season of the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, in the auditorium on the main level of the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. It is open to the public and free of charge. Refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes.

Science Director and Curator of the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum Dr. Jose Leal will be the first speaker of the season. His presentation is entitled “Cool Gulf of Mexico Mollusks," which highlights the results of the recent cruise sponsored by Dr. Greg Herbert from the University of South Florida to the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Dr. Leal and Marine Biologist Rebecca Mensch participated in the cruise. Dr. Leal’s presentation will showcase rare mollusks and shells collected on the cruise and incorporated into the collection of the University.
