A Tarpon Bay Explorer naturalist presents a deck talk to visitors.
After a two-year hiatus, the free Deck Talks will return providing a no cost, fun option for visitors of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

“We had to pause our deck talk program as a result of construction that was happening in our parking lot,” explained Adam Sauerland, Program and Education Manager.

“The program was designed to help keep visitors entertained before afternoon eco-trips, but some people would come just to learn about wildlife they may be interested in. But, it was very difficult to give a proper presentation with an orchestra of power tools in the background,” explained Sauerland.

Deck talks consist of a 20-30-minute, in-depth presentation on a variety of wildlife species. Topics include: Dolphins, Sharks, Sea Turtles, Alligators and Calusa Indians. These deck talks are free of charge and are given Monday through Friday at 12:45pm. The deck is located next to the dock between SCCF’s Marine Lab and Tarpon Bay Explorers’ gift shop. No reservations required.
