The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation invites the public to the 8th Annual Beer in the Bushes, the organization’s annual fundraising event. It will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the SCCF Nature Center, 3333 Sanibel Captiva Rd.

The event theme this year is the celebration of our community. Beer in the Bushes Creator Jeff Siwicke said the theme was developed when the families of Mark Wimmer and the Marcums decided to become sponsors. “It was an aha moment,” he said.

Wimmer, of the Milwaukee-based Wimmer Communities, told Siwicke his family wanted to become involved as a new presenting sponsor because they have “much love for Sanibel.” The Marcums, who are SCCF members, are also big music lovers and chose to be a band co-sponsor with longtime band sponsors Jensen’s Twin Palm Resort & Marina. The Marcums first wanted to be anonymous, but hope their support might encourage others in the community to join in support of SCCF.

Everything seemed to click and our theme was born,” said Siwicke. “I began to understand this event is about positivity, community, music and love for our islands.”

All white attire is requested as a celebration of this love for the islands and community. Sanibel’s own Catering by Leslie Adams will coordinate local food truck offerings to complement the beer tastings. Beer in the Bushes is a smoke-free, outdoor, rain-or-shine event. Parking is limited. Advance tickets are $70; day of (if available, as this event sells out) will be $80. All tickets include $10 in TruxBux redeemable for dinner choices at any of the trucks.
