Anyone who would like to identify a shell can bring it to the Sanibel Shell Festival in the morning on Thursday and Friday, March 7-8 at the Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way. Scientific Director and Curator at The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum Dr. Jose Leal will help with shell identification and answer questions on shells and mollusks or the animals that create the shells. 


The 82nd Annual Sanibel Shell Festival is the largest and longest running shell festival in the country. It will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and until 4 p.m. Saturday, March 9. For more information, call 239-472-2155 or visit
