An island business owner reported a theft by one of his employees. Luis Sanchez, 45, Fort Myers, was arrested by Sanibel Police Tuesday, Feb. 26 and charged with grand theft and check forgery. The businessman told police he gave Sanchez a check to pay a vendor on Feb. 18, but later discovered Sanchez had cashed it. Sanchez admitted the theft to police and stated the money was used for his personal overdue bills. He was released from Lee County Jail Feb. 26 on a $10,000 bond.

Alexandra Murray, 48, Fort Myers, was traveling east on Middle Gulf Drive at 3:29 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, when she stopped at a pedestrian crossing and the back of her vehicle was struck by a motorcycle operated by 47-year-old Francis Viel, of Quebec. No injuries were reported and Viel was cited for following too closely.

Terrence Swanson, 82, Onalaska, Wisc., was backing his vehicle out of a parking space at Doc Ford’s restaurant, 2500 Island Inn Rd., at 6:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, when his vehicle struck a parked vehicle registered to David Schaeffer, 33, Brookline, Mass.

Robert Kuiken, 73, Tinley Park, Ill., was leaving a parking space Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Jerry’s Foods, 1700 Periwinkle Way, when his vehicle struck the open back passenger door of a parked vehicle registered to Leslie MacDonald, 74, Plymouth, Minn.

Alexander Cano, 53, Lehigh Acres, was attempting a turn onto Periwinkle Way from Donax Street on Monday, Feb. 25, when he had to make a sudden complete stop and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Megan Farrington, 28, Winter Springs, Fla.
