A Sanibel man remains in custody at the Lee County Jail after he allegedly became violent with two individuals the morning of Sunday, Dec. 23 in the Chateaux Sur Mer neighborhood. Police arrested 27-year-old Christopher Ruane Jr. and charged him with two counts of battery and assault with intent to commit a felony.

The male victim stated they were discussing a cellphone bill when Ruane became aggressive, struck him twice and threatened to kill him. Ruane reportedly shoved the female victim into a row of bushes in the front yard as he was leaving the residence. Police were able to quickly locate Ruane on a nearby beach and he was in possession of a knife.

Ruane is being held on a $5,500 bond and scheduled to appear in court Jan. 22.

Truck Tips Over On Periwinkle; Driver Arrested

Forty-four-year-old Roberto Lopez-Moreno told police he was making a left turn from Periwinkle Way onto Donax Street at 9:43 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, when a gust of wind hit the bed of his truck causing him to momentarily lose control and shifted mulch tipped the truck onto its side. No injuries were reported, but Moreno was issued a Notice to Appear for driving without a license.

Collision Temporarily Shuts Down Tarpon Bay Road

A two-vehicle collision Thursday, Dec. 27 shutdown Tarpon Bay Road for about 30 minutes.

Thomas Colucci, 63, Jacksonville, N.J., was traveling south on Tarpon Bay Road at 6:14 p.m. when a vehicle operated by Ted Ballard, 55, Wakefield, Mass., turned left from Island Inn Road and struck the front of his vehicle. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage and were towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

Other Collisions Reported Last Week

Larry Bates, 46, Fort Myers, was traveling west on Periwinkle Way near the Casa Ybel intersection at 11:51 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, when he slowed for traffic and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Tyler Franz, 20, Cape Coral. No injuries were reported.

Jack Kranzel, 78, Camp Hill, Pa., was backing his vehicle out of a parking space at Bailey’s shopping center, 2477 Periwinkle Way, at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, when his vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Megan Doss, 44, Sanibel.

Junjie Zhao, 55, Sanibel, was backing her vehicle out of a parking space in the Sanibel Farmer’s Market overflow parking lot, 2190 Periwinkle Way, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, when her vehicle struck a vehicle operated by David Necessary, 65, Nicholasville, Ky. No injuries were reported.

Mistee Bramlett, 45, Fort Myers, was backing her vehicle out of a parking space at Lighthouse Beach, 144 Periwinkle Way, at 2:26 p.m. Christmas day, when her vehicle struck the back passenger door of a parked vehicle. When the unoccupied vehicle’s owner could not be located at the overcrowded beach, the police officer left information for them.
