Sanibel Planning Commission unanimously elected Chuck Ketteman as chair and Roger Grogman as vice chair at its Tuesday, Jan. 22 meeting in MacKenzie Hall. The commission also welcomed its two new members Eric Pfeifer and Paul Nichols, who were appointed by Council on Jan. 15.

Nichols is a recent retiree who moved to the island as a full-time resident last fall and currently serves on the Dunes Advisory Committee and Dunes Men’s Golf Association Board. He had a nearly 40 year career in technology industry. His term on the seven member board will expire in January 2021.

Pfeifer owns Pfeifer Realty Group, but also holds a civil and environmental engineering degree. He served as president of the Sanibel Captiva Island Association of Realtors and Sanibel Captiva Kiwanis Club. He is also a past member of the Parks and Recreation Committee, Traffic Committee and Floodplain Management and Advisory Committee. His term on the commission will expire in January 2022.

Grogman, who was first appointed to the commission in December 2017 to fill an unexpired term, was re-appointed by council to serve until January 2022. Grogman is a retired business manager who is President of the Shell Harbor Owners Association. He is involved in several local charity events and has been on the board and vice president of the Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club.

  • Below Market Rate Housing, chaired by Grogman

  • Permitting Process Review, chaired by Commissioner Matthew Kirchner
