The scenic Sanibel Causeway will undergo a routine inspection anticipated to begin Monday, May 6, and be completed by summer, weather permitting. Work will be done from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The inspection includes all three bridges and workers will be on the shoulders. No lane closures are expected, but drivers will have to navigate slight lane shifts with minor traffic disruptions during the daily set up and break down of equipment. There will be variable message signs to alert drivers.

The purpose of the inspection is to check the status of the repairs made to selected cracks, as well as to evaluate the performance of the different materials used in those repairs. Additionally, workers will monitor cracks identified in prior inspection reports.

The causeway is owned and operated by the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, along with the toll facility. The inspection will be done by the Department of Transportation consultant T.Y. Lin International.
