Sanibel Police arrest Tiana Maranville, left, and Alexander Maranville Saturday, Nov. 24 for indecent exposure at the beach.

A Vermont couple were arrested by Sanibel Police the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 24 for indecent exposure at the beach area behind 2431 W. Gulf Dr. Tiana Maranville, 26, and her husband Alexander Maranville, 27, were reported by several witnesses on the beach to have been nude and possibly engaged in sexual activity.

Officers arrived to find Tiana alone in the water nude and made several attempts to cover her body with a towel. Tiana told the officers she did not know it was against the law to be nude on the beach and refused to cover herself or provide identification, according to the report.

Alexander arrived on the scene, fully clothed, and also claimed he did not know public nudity was against the law or think it was wrong. While officers attempted to explain the law and reasons for it, the couple reportedly became belligerent and were eventually taken into custody.

The couple were booked into the Lee County Jail and released Sunday, Nov. 25 on $1,500 bond each.
