Sanibel Police arrested Jose Garcia, 37, Fort Myers, for suspicion of driving under the influence after his vehicle was spotted traveling west on Periwinkle Way at a high rate of speed in the early morning of Sunday, Sept. 30.

Police made contact with Garcia when his vehicle pulled into the parking lot of George & Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grill, 2477 Periwinkle Way. Garcia told police he was dropping off his passenger, 26-year-old Christina Teixeira, Captiva, at her vehicle which had been left in the parking lot.

Garcia failed a field sobriety test and was transported to the Lee County Jail, where a breath test showed his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. He was cited for driving under the influence. Teixeira was transported home by a police officer due to suspicion of her being under the influence of alcohol and unable to legally drive.

Patrick Hudak, 23, Fort Myers, was cited for driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane Tuesday, Oct. 2, after police were tipped off to the erratic movements of a vehicle eastbound on Sanibel Captiva Road at 10:54 p.m. Hudak failed a field sobriety test and declined to take a breath test. He was booked into the Lee County Jail and his drivers license was seized.
