A 25-year-old male was found deceased by two co-workers Thursday, Oct. 11 in his Captiva apartment. The decedent, Jerod Findley, was a maintenance worker for an island business and resided for the past two months in a bottom unit at 1508 Andy Rosse Lane.

Findley had not been seen since the previous day, a witness told responding officers. Two of Findley’s co-workers had gone to his apartment looking for a tool, when they found him on the bed and unresponsive. Suspected drug paraphernalia was found at the scene with no signs of any altercations or foul play, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Drug Arrest on Wildlife Drive

Sanibel Police arrested a man and woman for drug possession Saturday, Oct. 13 on Wildlife Drive in the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services Officer John Thompson initially stopped the vehicle after spotting the passenger not wearing a seat belt and hanging out the side window.

Rhiannon Harding, 29, Charlottesville, Va., and John Hughes, 75, Surfside, S.C., were taken into custody after police found more than 19 grams of marijuana, various pills and two grams of cocaine stashed in the vehicle. They were released Oct. 13 from the Lee County Jail on $11,500 bail each.

Osvaldo Luquez, 37, North Fort Myers, was traveling on Periwinkle Way at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, when his vehicle struck the back of a stopped vehicle operated by Jeffrey Koontz, 54, Sanibel, which then struck the back of a vehicle operated by Gregory Nelson, 52, Fort Myers. Nelson’s vehicle had stopped for a vehicle turning into the parking lot of Huxter’s Market & Deli, 1200 Periwinkle Way, at the time of the accident.

Jonas Rickeis, 45, city unknown, was operating a boat when he was given a verbal warning by police at 11:18 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, for water skiing in the channel.
