CIHS Cruise to Boca Grande

The Captiva Island Historical Society is launching its first event of the 2026-27 season. In collaboration with the Boca Grande Historical Society, CIHS is offering a cruise to Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island aboard Captiva Cruises.

During the ride to Boca Grande, Bob Rando and Richard Finkle of Captiva Cruises, who are also new CIHS board members, will share stories about Pine Island Sound. Attendees will hear tales of Spanish explorers, the area’s famous tarpon fishing, the legacy of Cubans and Native Americans, and more.

Upon arrival in Boca Grande, a history tour will include the Crowninshield Community House, home of the Boca Grande Historical Society; Boca Grande’s Johann Fust community library and gardens, considered architectural gems; and the downtown area. A walkthrough of the legendary Gasparilla Inn will also be offered.

The Crowninshield Community House will serve a catered buffet lunch. The event costs $95, which includes lunch. Attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes, although golf cart transportation will also be available. Reservations are required through Eventbrite, and spots are limited.
