SUMMARY:Wild About CROW
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are on sale now for the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW)’s fundraising event ‘WILD About CROW’. \nThis year\, proceeds from the “Under the Sea” themed fundraiser will generate critical funding to rebuild CROW’s Sea Turtle facility. Hurricane Ian destroyed many of the clinic’s outdoor enclosures\, and their ability to treat Sea Turtles. CROW fulfills an important role as the only licensed Sea Turtle facility on the west coast of Florida between Sarasota and the Keys. \nWILD will feature a cocktail hour\, dinner reception\, appearances by CROW’s Animal Ambassadors\, and plenty of fun surprises for guests to show their support for CROW. \nEarly bird general admission tickets are $250 per person through the end of 2023. On Jan. 1\, 2024\, the price will increase to $275 per person. Purchase tickets or become a sponsor here.  \nShare this:\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:(CROW) Wild Nights at Tipsy Turtle
DESCRIPTION:Join the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) at the Tipsy Turtle Restaurant and Back Bar for a family friendly night of amazing food in support of native and migratory wildlife! \nThe night\, themed as “Tipsy Tortoise” night\, will feature CROW’s Animal Ambassador Biscuit\, the gopher tortoise. Biscuit will be out to meet and greet with patrons while CROW’s education staff shares fun facts and information about this keystone species. While diners learn more about wildlife rehabilitation and native wildlife\, Tipsy Turtle will be donating a very generous 50 percent of food and beverage purchases from the evening to help wildlife recovering in CROW’s hospital. \nThe “wild” nights at Tipsy Turtle\, 1223 Periwinkle Way\, will continue to take place the first Tuesday each month. A different Animal Ambassador will be in attendance for each event. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit\, CROW relies on donations from the community\, funds raised through events\, admission to its Visitor Education Center\, and foundational grants to treat thousands of animals admitted to its hospital each year. \nWant to learn more about CROW? Check out its Visitor Education Center located at 3883 Sanibel Captiva Road. The Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10am-4pm. More information can be found online at http://www.CROWClinic.org. \nShare this:\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Species Profile: Snakes of SWFL
DESCRIPTION:Species Profile: Snakes of Southwest Florida \nFlorida is home to 46 species of native snakes\, only 6 of which are venomous. Although there is a widespread fear and misunderstanding of this animal\, most species are harmless to humans and form vital links in the ecosystem. Snakes are extremely valuable because they are efficient at monitoring pest populations without relying on chemical pesticides which can degrade the environment and harm other animal species. \nOne of CROW’s Animal Ambassadors will be present. \n(Adults: $12\, Ages 4-12: $7\, Age 3 and under: Free) \nShare this:\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Invasives
DESCRIPTION:An invasive species is an organism that is not indigenous or native to a particular area. Invasive species can cause great economic and environmental harm to the new area. But not all non-native species are invasive. To be invasive\, a species must adapt to the new area easily. It must reproduce quickly. It must harm property\, the economy\, or the native plants and animals of the region. This presentation highlights invasive species that are commonly found in southwest Florida. Learn how these animals got here and exactly what makes them harmful to the environment around them!

SUMMARY:Baby Care at CROW
DESCRIPTION:Wildlife parents are very devoted to the care of their young and rarely abandon them\, and juveniles found “abandoned” might actually be in a natural stage of development. Those needing assistance are placed in a specialized wing of the wildlife hospital and are provided supportive care around the clock until they are old enough to care for themselves.

SUMMARY:Wildlife Rescue 101
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever come across wildlife in “distress” but did not know the appropriate steps to help? Florida is home to more than 700 terrestrial animals and other invertebrates\, and they all depend on our sustainable recreational practices to survive. From posturing to vocalizations\, animals communicate in a variety of ways and\, at times\, indicate their need for human assistance. Whether it is deterring visitors from feeding birds on the beach or detaching a pelican from fishing line in the mangroves\, this program will cover wildlife rescue assessment as well as handling techniques!

SUMMARY:Raptors in Rehab
DESCRIPTION:The rehabilitation process for raptors is dependent on their age. There is potential for imprinting in hatchlings and nestlings. Rehab staff must take proper precautions to prevent habituation and ensure success in the wild once released. Adult raptors including eagles\, hawks\, falcons\, owls\, and vultures have physical characteristics helping them to hunt prey\, defend themselves from predators\, and other natural survival behaviors. This talk will cover how their talons\, beaks\, and strength make it important for hospital staff to be trained in proper handling techniques for the safety of themselves and the animal in care. \nShare this:\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print
