After years of hard work and dedication from its volunteers, Sanibel American Legion Post 123 welcomed everyone back inside the post and continues to offer entertainment three days a week. One of the post’s main attractions? Fish Fry Fridays, held every “Fryday” through the end of April, on top of live music two nights a week.
“We are busy all day on Fridays with the fish fry. On Tuesday nights, we have local talent sign up between 5 and 7 p.m., and we have a full house listening to music. Then on Saturday nights, again, it starts at 5:30 and goes until 8:30 p.m.,” Commander Tim Moore said. “[We have] a really good turnout, we are full on all three of those.”
After focusing all of its energy on restoring beloved Post 123 following Hurricane Ian in 2022 and the subsequent storms, Helene and Milton in 2024, the post held an official grand re-opening on Aug. 30, 2025, welcoming all back to the fully operational veterans’ hub at 4249 Sanibel Captiva Rd.

On top of the regularly scheduled entertainment, the legion is back to focusing on the four pillars of its mission: Americanism, Veterans Services, Children and Youth, and National Security. Now that the inside of the post is fully restored and operational, they can provide their services to all.
“We try to do something once a quarter in one of those four areas,” Moore said.
After recently hosting a St. Patrick’s Day event, Moore said that visitors can expect to see information on their Facebook page about upcoming events for holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and an end-of-summer celebration. After all the work that has been done, the commander is excited to welcome everyone back to the post if you have yet to stop by since its reopening.
“It’s new and improved. We welcome all veterans or families or children, and we invite people to come in on a daily basis and be our guests,” Moore said.
