District state legislators will recap the significance of measures passed and failed during the 2025 Florida legislative session at the next monthly SanCap business luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa in Fort Myers.

The annual chamber legislative update will feature Florida District 33 Sen. Jonathon Martin and District 80 Rep. Adam Botana. SanCap Chamber board member and Lee Health chief of staff Michael Nachef will moderate. The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company is sponsoring the event.

Sen. Jonathon Martin and Rep. Adam Botana will review the 2025 state legislative session with Michael Nachef as moderator.

Botana is a dedicated small business owner and lifelong Bonita Springs resident focused on protecting waterways and supporting the Southwest Florida community since he took office in 2020. He is actively involved in environmental cleanups, Habitat for Humanity projects, charity events, and educational efforts through Florida Gulf Coast University’s (FGCU) Vester Marine Field Station.

Elected in 2022, Martin serves as chair of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and holds roles on several other key committees. A former prosecutor for the 20th Judicial Circuit, he now practices law as a partner at Aloia Roland, focusing on personal injury and wrongful death.

An FGCU graduate and longtime community leader, Nachef serves on several local boards and was named one of Florida’s 40 Under 40 in 2024.

“How did the 2025 legislative session in Tallahassee help us, and how did it fall short of our water-quality, tourism economy, and other goals? Find out from this informative panel tailored to island issues,” said SanCap Chamber president and chief executive officer John Lai. “Jonathan and Adam were there and can explain the what, why, and how as it affects us.”

The SanCap Chamber business lunch is a monthly networking opportunity held at various member locations. The chamber strives to provide speakers to discuss business topics relevant to the membership. SanCap Chamber members receive meeting invitations by email. Cost for luncheon attendance is $35.

Advanced registration is required to attend; walk-ins are not accepted. Register by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, at sanibel-captiva.org or by contacting Aaron Walton at aaron@sanibel-captiva.org or 239-472-8759. Payment is due at time of registration.
