City Council was honored to have the Seahorse Chorale open its May 7 meeting with the national anthem. Council members presented each student with a special token of the City’s appreciation.
The Seahorse Chorale is a non-auditioned concert choir consisting of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students from The Sanibel School. The choir was founded in 2016 by Music Director Joseph Giangreco. Seahorse Chorale focuses on learning music from a variety of genres and cultures. The ensemble has consistently received ratings of Excellent while singing at the Music Performance Assessments. The choir frequently performs at school and community events throughout the year, including being annually selected to perform at Walt Disney World.
This school year, Seahorse Chorale was selected by Troen Student Performance Events to perform at one of the most prestigious venues in the world – Carnegie Hall in New York City. To be accepted, the choir submitted an audition video and application that was met with praise from the judging panel. After hard work throughout the school year to prepare, Seahorse Chorale performed on the Carnegie Hall stage as part of the New York Invitational Music Festival on April 1, 2024. Although initially requesting to perform for comments only, the adjudicators and production company felt that Seahorse Chorale did such an amazing job with their performance that they still awarded the choir a Gold rating for their performance. Gold is the highest possible rating that can be achieved and is an incredible honor. Seahorse Chorale is proud to bring the Gold rating back home to Sanibel and celebrate with all who helped to make this once-in-a-lifetime trip a possibility.
