Congregation of Bat Yam Temple of the Islands invites the Sanibel community to its Purim Pandemonium, a late afternoon of fun and entertainment to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim.
The event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 15, starting in front of Congress Jewelers at Periwinkle Place II, 2075 Periwinkle Way, and features a costume parade, a New Orleans brass band, food, beverages, prizes, and a short Megillah (Book of Esther) reading.
Purim commemorates the survival of Persian Jews, targeted for annihilation in the 4th century BCE.
“Purim may not be the Jewish Mardi Gras, but it sure looks like it. Masks, costumes, music, food, and fun to celebrate the resilience of the Jewish people and the freedom of all people to worship and live as they please,” says Bat Yam’s Rabbi Sunny Schnitzer.
Bat Yam Temple of the Islands is a Jewish cultural and spiritual center serving the communities of Sanibel, Captiva, Fort Myers, and surrounding areas in Florida. Established in 1991, it offers a warm and welcoming environment for residents and visitors seeking a place of worship, education, community service, and interfaith activities.
