Bat Yam Temple Hosting Passover Gathering

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The Bat Yam Temple of the Islands is celebrating Passover at 5 p.m. Monday, April 22 at the Sanibel Community United Church of Christ in the fellowship hall, 2050 Periwinkle Way. The community is invited with seating on a first-reserved basis for $50 per person. Email bataymsanibel@gmail.com to make a reservation.

More Jews gather around the world for Passover, and this year it will be more than ever, than for any other event during the year. At our seder we will hear again the biblical story which commemorates the exodus from Egypt. It is this celebration of our freedom, which is recorded at Passover every year.

Rabbi Sunny Schnitzer will be talking to us about the essence of the holiday. We will eat Matzo, the bread of affliction, and learn the Jews left in such a hurry they could not wait for the bread to rise. Haggadahs (the book dedicated to honor the Exodus story) will be provided. The stories will be told while enjoying the meal.

Speaking of the meal, Bat Yam’s catering committee will once again be cooking all the courses from chopped liver, charoset, maror, chicken soup with matzo balls,(180 Matzo balls) the whole megillah…no-one will go home hungry. Congregants recall celebrating Passover 2023 with food that was so delicious, a cookbook, “Cooking with Bat Yam Temple of the Islands,” was born. Many contributors being members of the catering committee. There are still a few copies for sale.

Our Passover seder is a highlight of our year, so join us and add to the celebration.
