Captiva Reopens, Begins Cleanup After Hurricane Milton

SC Staff Report

Captiva Island is cleaning up after Hurricane Milton. Residents were granted access by vehicle today, Oct. 11, after repairs were completed to the Blind Pass bridge and Captiva Drive.

The Captiva Island Fire Department reported that the power is off to all of the island and will remain off until crews can assess the island, assess damage to equipment, and make any necessary repairs.

The Island Water Association has restored some water services to Captiva, but water is very limited. Fire personnel can use it for emergency fire services.

The storm surge on Captiva is comparable to Hurricane Ian. The Captiva fire station reported that its apparatus bay took on about 2 feet of water. There is significant beach erosion throughout the island, and unfortunately, took a portion of the Mucky Duck.
