‘Catching A Wave’ Not Necessary With Electric Surfboard

by SC Associate Publisher Chuck Larsen

When most people think of the Gulf of Mexico, surfing probably never crosses their mind. While the gulf is capable of producing quality surf during tropical weather, “catching a wave” will not be necessary with the invention of the electrically-powered surfboard with an underwater propeller giving motion through the water.

The Waydoo Flyer is among numerous devices and gadgets being revealed at the Consumer Electronic Show from Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nev. It enables riders to steadily ride on all types of water without leaning on natural forces and even gives a unique fly-above-water experience. The futuristic electric hydrofoil, also known as flying surfboard, is the combination of modern electric vehicle and hydrofoil technology.

“Foiling is the coolest new sport for water enthusiasts and for anyone who is not yet familiar with the electric hydrofoil,” says the Shenzhen-based Chinese company behind the Waydoo Flyer.

Priced out around $6,500, the Waydoo Flyer benefits from design and manufacturing adjustments that have improved its robust battery life for a ride up to 75 minutes on a full charge; waterproofing and superior fluid dynamic technology that ensures no corrision. The slip-resistant, textured carbon fiber Waydoo Flyer has a 6,000-watt battery, which reaches a top speed of 28 m.p.h. and gives the rider a steady ride. It’s now safer and more durable, for repeated professional and recreational use.

In addition, riders can control the Waydoo Flyer with a wireless Bluetooth hand-held controller that has five speed and proficiency modes, from beginner to advanced. The remote allows riders to control speed and direction, while they are on the go, and has an option to help create the unique fly-above-water experience.

“Thanks to its clean energy and environmental benefits, our Waydoo Flyer empowers users to ride on water, with or without waves, safely, efficiently and quietly, while minimizing the effects of choppy or rough conditions, making it ideal for usage all year round,” said Waydoo Marketing Director Bianca Zhang.
