Community Housing & Resources will purchase the former Fish House property at 1523 Periwinkle Way, according to CHR Executive Director Nicole Decker-McHale, who made the announcement on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Sanibel City Council meeting.

The redevelopment will transform the site into 38 affordable housing apartments and 2,500 square feet of commercial space, creating a mixed-use development.

This $21 million project, scheduled for completion by July 2028, is especially significant because it will allow the city to, for the first time, reach its affordable housing population goal of 3 percent.

While the development is a major milestone, it is important to note that, under the terms of the grant awarded for this project, CHR must open the opportunity to Lee County residents and consider their applications alongside those from Sanibel and Captiva.

City Council voted unanimously to proceed with a letter of support for this project.

Additionally, in other CHR news, the Council approved CHR’s request to hold a “Full Moon” Fundraiser Event with a beach campfire at Sundial Beach Resort on February 2.
