provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The Committee of the Islands, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is one of the oldest organizations on Sanibel and Captiva. COTI is devoted to the continuity of good government in support of the environment and preserving the sanctuary quality of our community.

At the March 30 annual meeting, COTI members elected the board for the coming year: Bill Millar, President; Bob Moore, Vice President; Jeff Blackman, Secretary; and Bud Reinhold, Treasurer. New board members are Victoria Anthony, Arielle Cohen, Paula Friedman, and Mitchell Koppelman. Returning to the board, in addition to the officers, are Emily Ankerson, Allan Antley, Barbara Joy Cooley, Chet Sadler, and Ellen Smiley.

Committee chairs, selected at an April 16 organizational board meeting, are Ellen Smiley, Communications; Chet Sadler, Membership; Mitch Koppelman, Land Use/City Governance; Allan Antley, Environment; Bob Moore, Adaptation, Mitigation and Resilience; and Bill Millar, Transportation.

In support of its goals, COTI sponsors several community education events each year, advocates for specific community policies and practices, and collaborates with the city of Sanibel and like-minded organizations in survey design, data collection and other efforts to assess community priorities.

COTI welcomes the engagement of members as volunteers in a variety of its activities, offering options that are flexibly scheduled and contribute to important island initiatives.
