Sanibel City Council recognized public works employee Josh Holler at its Monday, Sept. 12 meeting in MacKenzie Hall.
He is the city worker who first spotted the voyeuristic cameras installed at the Bowman’s Beach family restroom in July.
City Manager Dana Souza presented Holler with a recognition certificate at the meeting. He praised Holler and city employees for their ‘see something, say something’ alertness.
Holler told the SantivaChronicle.com he saw “what looked like a fire alarm. But I knew I didn’t put it there.”
Sanibel Police identified 58-year-old David Alan Caruso of New Hampshire as the person who installed the device and with cooperation from other police agencies, he was arrested Aug. 19 at O’Hare airport in Chicago, and extradited back to Lee County.
He is free on $140,000 bond and fitted with a GPS tracking device and prohibited from returning to the scene of the crime or contacting any of the alleged victims.
Sanibel Police said there were 55 victims seen on a storage flash drive. They are actively working to identify as many of the victims who were recorded as possible.
