The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation reported Lee County Conservation Land Acquisition and Stewardship Advisory Committee confirmed in its meeting on July 17 that the county made an offer in late June to the owner of Eden Oak property for the Conservation 20/20 program.
The 36-acre property on Shell Point Boulevard was nominated for the program in 2019 and its nomination is running parallel to the county zoning change request by the owner who is proposing to dredge and fill the mangrove wetlands for 56 residential homes with docks. The owner further proposes excavation of a new canal and the creation of a boat basin with additional docks.
The final hearing for the property owner’s request to change the zoning from agricultural to residential is scheduled for Dec. 11. The next CLASA meeting will be Aug. 19, when there may be an update on the negotiation.
