Known for his calm, straight-forward, no-hype approach to weather forecasting, WINK News Chief Meteorologist Matt Devitt will share insights into the 2025 hurricane season at the July 16 SanCap Chamber monthly business meeting. It starts at 11:30 at The Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel Island. Alliant Association Management is sponsoring the luncheon.
“As we approach the three-year mark after Hurricane Ian, I’ve asked Matt to present updated forecasts, preparedness tips, and key indicators to watch for as the season progresses,” said SanCap Chamber president and chief executive officer John Lai. “Best of all, he will be offering, as ‘Southwest Florida’s #1 Most Trusted Meteorologist,’ words of encouragement to help both the chamber and the broader island community through this year’s season as prepared as possible.”
Since joining WINK News in 2016, Devitt has guided viewers through some of Southwest Florida’s most dangerous weather events. His love for weather started when he was seven years old. Today, he’s grateful to live his childhood dream every day.
Devitt holds a degree in meteorology from Pennsylvania State University. He launched his career in “Tornado Alley” with KTEN-TV in Oklahoma. He later forecasted in Arkansas and Georgia before landing in Florida. Today, Devitt leads a team of meteorologists and interns from across the country, providing mentorship while maintaining WINK’s commitment to delivering advanced weather coverage.
He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Beyond the forecast, Devitt is active in the community, supporting organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Southwest Florida, and Ronald McDonald House Charities. He also enjoys speaking at local schools and sharing his passion for science and safety with future generations.
The SanCap Chamber business lunch is a monthly networking opportunity held at various member locations. The chamber strives to provide speakers to discuss business topics relevant to the membership. SanCap Chamber members receive meeting invitations by email. Cost for luncheon attendance is $35.
