‘Ding’ Darling Plans Two Holiday Get-Togethers

Nature-inspired holiday ornaments contribute to the gift offerings during “Ding” Darling’s Holiday Shopping Night.

Although the SanCap Chamber has postponed its annual islands-wide Holiday Luminary this year, many businesses and organizations, including the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, have planned their own “mini-Luminary” observances.

“Ding” Darling has two festive events planned for the season: Holiday Shopping Night on Wednesday, Nov. 29, and Holiday Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

For one evening each year, the Refuge Nature Store and “Ding” Darling Visitor & Education Center stay open to the public after hours. Holiday Shopping Night takes place from 4 to 6 p.m.

The Nature Store offers special incentives to get you started on your shopping list this holiday season. Besides its complete stock of children’s books, toys, games, and clothing, the store sells jewelry made from recycled materials, nature-related ornaments, Refuge logo caps and shirts, and gifts for the home, including art by local crafters and artists. All profits benefit wildlife research and conservation education at the refuge.

The Nature Store staff will wrap your gifts for free, plus you receive free gifts with purchase, special promotions, and free giveaways. Enjoy noshes and beverages as you shop to the tunes of the jolly season. The chamber will provide a trail of luminary candle bags around the parking lot.

Join the “Ding” team at 2 p.m. on December 13, for its first-ever Holiday Ice Cream Social, a free occasion to get to know your neighbors new and old. It will take place at the new outdoor pavilion, The Roost with festive music and sweet, icy treats.
