The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge and “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge (DDW) on Sanibel Island have resumed a longtime partnership with Butcher Studios to sell artwork by renowned nature photographer Clyde Butcher and his artist wife, Niki Butcher. Previously managed by DDWS before Hurricane Ian, the program brought a percentage from Butcher Studios sales into refuge coffers to support conservation and education programs.
“We are delighted to resume our close relationship with the Butcher family,” said DDWS executive director Ann-Marie Wildman. “For the past decade, we have hosted Clyde and Niki for exhibits, guest lectures, book-signings, and special events. We are so appreciative for the generous, ongoing contributions they make to support the refuge.”
In 2019, DDWS mounted a dynamic exhibition of Clyde’s photography at the refuge, including many of his oversized photos measuring up to 6 feet. Guests had the chance to see and peer through the 8 x 10 box camera he used for many of his photos and truly experience his unique perspective of the Florida Everglades. DDWS is planning a Niki Butcher art exhibition in 2027, the date to be announced.
The Everglades have inspired both Clyde’s and Niki’s work through the years. The Butchers operate a gallery there, along with Swamp Retreats lodging and Swamp Walk eco-tours.
Interested buyers can peruse available artworks at clydebutcher.com and purchase them through Wildman at wildman@dingdarlingsociety.org or 239-789-8991.
