‘Domicile Day’ Seminars Explore Florida Residency, Estate Planning

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

Florida Trust Wealth Management will host its first two Florida residency, domicile status and estate planning seminars of the 2025-2026 season on Thursday, Nov. 13 and Thursday, Dec. 18.

Domicile Day seminars will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Florida Trust’s Sanibel office at 2450 Periwinkle Way.

These informative sessions, which explain how to establish Florida residency, domicile status and corresponding estate planning, will begin with a presentation and Q&A session led by Florida Trust team members along with guest presenter David M. Platt, P.A., a local estate planning attorney. Presenters will stay following the presentation to answer additional individual questions.

Part-time and seasonal Florida residents may visit with presenters about their residency status, protecting their assets and how to maintain their domicile status if displaced by a hurricane or other major event.

“Florida residency and domicile are not the same,” explained Jeff Muddell, MBA, CFP, president of the Sanibel office of Florida Trust Wealth Management. “Many new Florida homeowners don’t realize this critical difference, but it’s essential to understand, particularly when it comes to taxes, estate planning and applicable laws. We encourage anyone new to the state or planning to move here to attend a domicile session to learn more.”

Seating is limited and registration is required. To register, contact Frances Steger at fsteger@floridatrust.com 239-472-8300.

Florida Trust Wealth Management is also offering personalized, confidential consultations about Florida residency status, estate planning or wealth management needs.
