Dr. Jose Leal is speaking at the Oct. 11 Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club meeting

The October 11th meeting of the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club will feature longtime club member Jose’ H. Leal, PhD. Dr. Leal is the Science Director & Curator of the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium.

Dr. Leal will present, “What’s New at the National Shell Museum and Aquarium?” He will discuss some of the most exciting recent developments, including new research, upcoming temporary exhibits, informal education, lectures, public programs, and his own busy plans for after-retirement activities.

The meeting will be held at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel Captiva Road, on Sanibel. A silent auction will be held from 1:30-1:55 PM in the Osprey Room, and the meeting begins at 2 PM in the Pelican Room. All meetings are free and open to the public.

The Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club awards grants from the proceeds of its annual shell show, to be held March 4 – 6 in 2027, at the Sanibel Community House. Grants support education and research in conchology and malacology, as well as conservation and water quality projects, primarily in Southwest Florida.
