Emergency repair work to the East Periwinkle bridge near Limpet Drive requires intermittent closures to boat traffic at the bridge canal. The closures will begin this week, Nov. 14, and are anticipated to conclude prior to the Thanksgiving, weather permitting.
The bridge connecting Periwinkle Way to the east end of Sanibel was damaged by Hurricane Ian in September. These closures are temporary and should typically be limited to one hour during weekdays with no weekend closures anticipated, the City of Sanibel said in a statement Sunday morning.
They “are necessary to allow repair of the bridge abutments and to replace washed out materials in the bridge canal to protect the bridge from potential scouring,” the city said.
Everyone is encouraged to proceed slowly and cautiously through the area when work operations are underway. Contact the Public Works Department at 239-603-7261 with any questions regarding the Emergency East Periwinkle Bridge Repair project.
