The Captiva Triathlon was held at South Seas Resort on Saturday, Sept 9, and started just before 8 a.m. in the Gulf of Mexico with a quarter-mile swim, followed by a 10-mile bike ride to Blind Pass and back, and finally a 5k run along the golf course at the resort.

Jerrod Tumbleson, along with daughters, Macy and Ella, came from Bonita Springs to cheer on wife and mom, Catherine. Catherine was participating in memory of a dear friend, Michael Patton, who died in May of Multiple Myeloma. Michael had introduced the Tumbleson family to triathlons about 4 years ago, and his last time to run the Captiva Tri was last year.

Christine Young, Michael Patton’s sister, also participated, and said it has been a family event for about the past 5 years. Though it was very bittersweet to not have her brother with them, Christine said, “It’s just so much fun, so much camaraderie-it’s for everyone, all shapes, sizes, and ages. We have such a great time together.”
