FISH of SANCAP and Convoy of Hope provide 10 washers and dryers to FISH clients in need.

FISH of SANCAP has partnered with Convoy of Hope to provide 10 washers and dryers to clients who could not afford to replace them after the recent storms. It’s part of FISH’s effort to provide long-term storm recovery support.

“Something as simple as doing laundry can become a significant burden for those who have lost so much,” said FISH Executive Director Maria Espinoza. “This generous donation from Convoy of Hope helped families restore a basic need and continue healing from the effects of the storms.”

FISH coordinated the deliveries and gave each recipient a gift basket filled with laundry necessities such as detergent, a laundry basket, an iron, and hangers. The baskets were intended to bring a sense of home.

Sanibel School Teacher Alexis Camputaro was among the recipients of a washer and dryer set. Her family has struggled since the recent storms and couldn’t afford to replace their broken appliances.

“My family and I have been struggling these past few years with unexpected car and home AC repairs and hurricane evacuation expenses,” she said.

“Our washer, dryer, and dishwasher are not working, and we really can’t afford to replace them. Getting the washer and dryer is a tremendous help to our day-to-day lives, and we are very grateful for all FISH does that helps our little family,” Camputaro said.

She is also experiencing medical issues and recently lost her mother. Camputaro and her husband, a fellow teacher, have two children in pre-kindergarten. “I think once my son starts kindergarten next year — and a little later, when his sister joins him— we’ll finally be able to catch our breath,” she said optimistically.

FISH has continued supporting the community after Hurricane Ian struck as a devastating Category 4 storm in September 2022 and following Hurricanes Helen and Milton in 2024.

Services have included emergency financial assistance, food pantry support, mental health counseling, senior services, and transportation —many expanded after each storm to meet the growing need.

“This is a long journey for our community,” Espinoza said. “Recovery doesn’t end when the skies clear. With the help of partners like Convoy of Hope and the dedicated support of our staff and volunteers, we remain committed to walking alongside our neighbors every step of the way.”
