FISH of SanCap was there to help an island neighbor pick up the pieces after the heartbreaking loss of her partner, whom she cared for through a long period of poor health. She found the help she needed in FISH and felt a sense of community.
In her heartfelt note to FISH, the client expresses her gratitude for the many programs that helped her through her partner’s illness and his passing – the Smile Boxes, access to home health resources and medical equipment, and support after the recent storms.
“‘Wow, oh, wow,’ the Smile Box does just that-makes me smile,” wrote the client in her note to FISH Senior Services Director Ericka Arnowitz. “I hate to admit how much I needed those smiles these days, but I am hanging in there.”
“Oh, how things can change in a flash,” she wrote. “Losing a loved one is never easy, of course, but having support from FISH has helped ease the pain…You can tell this is your passion and how you love to nurture others.”
FISH has signed her up as a recipient of their holiday food and gift drive this year to help bring her a sense of community during a difficult time.
“We hear from our seniors all the time that small gestures, like a warm meal, a simple phone call, or a Smile Box filled with thoughtful treats, bring them incredible comfort,” said Arnowitz.
“Many of our seniors, like this client, have faced incredible hardships, from three damaging storms to caring for loved ones through a long-term illness and loss,” she said. “Having a caring community and access to programs that truly surround them with support makes all the difference.”
That is why FISH Senior Services programs are committed to bringing connection and compassion to those who need it most. FISH can assist with meals, medical equipment, companionship, and more, so our island neighbors do not face life’s most challenging moments alone.
