FISH of SANCAP announces Mary Jean “MJ” Hays has joined its team as the volunteer and office coordinator, a role in which she will work closely with the many volunteers and assist with administrative responsibilities.

“MJ’s warmth, attention to detail, and deep connection to the Sanibel community make her a wonderful fit for FISH,” said Executive Director Maria Espinoza. “She understands our mission and shares our passion for helping others.”

Hays brings a diverse background to the coordinator role, including more than a decade of owning a catering business in Georgia and several administrative and bookkeeping positions with local businesses.

“We’re so happy to welcome her to the team,” said Espinoza.

Hays and her husband moved to the island five years ago with their two dogs. She is an active member of the Sanibel-Captiva Orchid Society and volunteers at BIG ARTS. She also enjoys gardening, shelling, creating shell art, and baking for friends.

“It’s a blessing to work at such a great nonprofit that helps our community in so many ways and to make a difference,” Hays said of what drew her to work for FISH.

“The opportunity to be a part of something that gives back and supports others is appealing to me,” she said. “You never know how much a small gesture can change someone’s day or their life.”
