For the Record: Man Charged With Possessing Stolen Property

Sanibel Police arrested and charged Ulises Damian Quinonez Pinanez of Cape Coral on Thursday, Aug. 29, after stopping his vehicle, which had a reported stolen license plate. Further police investigation revealed Pinanez was wanted for failure to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid license.

Pinanez remains in the Lee County Jail on the outstanding warrant for failure to appear and charges for failure to register a vehicle, having a license plate attached that is not assigned to the vehicle, possessing stolen property, and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Sanibel Police handled the following additional incidents from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2:

Aug. 28: Officers responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash. One of the drivers was subsequently issued a criminal citation for never having a driver’s license issued. Officers made arrangements to remove the vehicle from the scene.

Aug. 30: Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessive speed. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for unlawful speed and a criminal citation for never having a driver’s license issued. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Aug. 31: Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessive speed. The driver was subsequently issued a criminal citation for driving with an expired driver’s license for more than six months. A licensed driver removed the vehicle from the scene.

Aug. 31: Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessive speed. A records check revealed that the driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle had a seize tag order. Police issued the driver a citation for unknowingly driving with a suspended driver’s license, seized the vehicle tag, and had the vehicle towed from the scene.

Sept. 1: Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessive speed. The driver was subsequently issued a criminal citation for driving with an expired license for more than six months.

Note: A criminal citation is also known as Notice to Appear (NTA), which is issued in lieu of a physical arrest. The recipient is required to appear in a designated court at a specified date and time.
