Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers Scheduled For Public Hearing

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

It will be determined at a public hearing at the July 15 City Council meeting whether the prohibition on gas-powered leaf blowers will finally go into effect.

The prohibition had been paused while the City was in a State of Emergency – and while the City remains in a State of Emergency, the City proposes that through either a Mayoral Proclamation or City Council Resolution, it may waive the prohibition.

If this ordinance is approved by the City Council, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers would be prohibited on Sanibel, effective immediately.

  1. State of Emergency ? State of Inertia more likely !
I spend a lot if time on my porch but not when the landscapers are around. Even for the hearing impaired the noise is deafening. But the silence when they leave is golden indeed. Please restore this ban as soon as possible. I sometimes think Sanibel is the place good ideas go to die.
