The Sanibel City Council heard an update from the City’s 50th Anniversary Workgroup, which continues to meet monthly. Two City events remain:
The 2025 Holiday Tree Lighting, Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Community Park, 2231 Periwinkle Way, with festivities at the Community House to follow; and the 2026 50th Anniversary Closing Event – Time Capsule Reinstallation and Community Cookout, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11 a.m. at City Hall, 800 Dunlop Road. The Chamber of Commerce’s Luminary Event will take place on December 5, 2025.
At the July 15, 2025, City Council meeting, members and alternates were appointed to the newly created Sanibel Plan Update Steering Committee. The alternate for Bob Moore, representing the Committee of the Islands (COTI), was not included in the original appointing resolution. Chet Sadler was the recommended COTI representative to be the alternate member for Mr. Moore.
