Sanibel Community Church asked City Council for a letter of support as it plans to sell some of its land to Lee County’s Conservation 20/20. Council was happy to provide a letter in support but added that the property will be kept in conservation in perpetuity. This was passed unanimously.

City Council unanimously ordered a speed limit study to examine the feasibility of reducing speed limits on Rabbit Road, Sanibel-Captiva Road, and East Periwinkle Way at a cost of $24,326. The study will include a recommendation for standardizing the spacing of speed limit signs on the roads to be studied. The Sanibel Code of Ordinances states that Periwinkle Way (Ferry to Tarpon), Palm Ridge Road, and Sanibel-Captiva Road have a speed limit of 35 mph, and that the bridge at Buell Creek on Bay Drive has a speed limit of 10 mph. The code does not provide speed limits for other streets or roads. Sanibel has posted one sign on the inbound lane of Causeway Boulevard that states 30 mph unless posted. This means that the speed limit on all streets, unless otherwise posted, is 30 mph.
