• Regarding the proposed roundabout, Planning Commissioners said watching social media is not going to get attention. Rather, if a citizen has input they should write to City Council and/or come to public meetings. Social media is not the avenue to talk to the policymakers and staff.

• The City Staff reported that City Manager Dana Souza is close to removing the large sign that “greets” people as they enter the island, declaring “WARNING. Unlicensed Contracting is a Felony During the Existence of a State of Emergency.”

• An application to allow vehicle rental use at 634 Yachtsman Drive submitted by Miles and Chelsea Sweiss on behalf of Acme Sanibel FL LLC, property owner, was withdrawn the night before the Planning Commission meeting. The City Staff’s report found the proposed vehicle rental inventory to be excessive. Staff also found the applicant’s proposal to provide more carts than bicycles is not consistent with the Sanibel Plan. Staff said it could support the application if the request is revised, subject to eight conditions.

• The Planning Commission reviewed its proposed 2025 Land Development Code Amendment Priorities. They are:
· Open Body of Water – continued from 2024 – next step is city council discussion on January 14, 2025
· Outdoor lighting/Marine sea turtle lighting – continued from 2024
· Chapter 122 – Landscaping – Buffer Standards – based on city council resolution adopted December 3, 2024
· Green Building Best Practices – continued from 2024 – discussion from Planning Commission December 10
· Permit review timelines – continued from 2024
· Unauthorized Rip Rap Revetments – continued from 2024
· Definitions: Fill, Developed Area – included based on Planning Commission discussion of November 19
·Temporary Flood Structures – included based on Planning Commission discussion of November 19

Commissioner Erika Steiner brought up the recent discussion about distressed properties and suggested that issue should be added to the LDC Amendment Priorities.
