Intermittent Closures of Lighthouse Beach Parking Lot

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The City of Sanibel Public Works Department is notifying residents and visitors that portions of the Lighthouse Beach Park Fishing Pier parking lot will be intermittently closed over the next several weeks. These closures are needed as Hurricane Ian recovery improvements are completed.

As part of the City’s ongoing recovery efforts, crews will add pit shell material throughout the parking lot. This will improve traffic circulation, access to entrances and exits, and overall drainage. Construction personnel and equipment will be on-site, grading and shaping the material to create a safer, more efficient parking lot for visitors.

Work should take about two weeks, though weather and site conditions may affect the schedule.

To safely accommodate material deliveries, grading operations, and construction equipment, portions of the parking lot may be temporarily closed at various times during the project. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions. Visitors should expect reduced parking availability and intermittent impacts to traffic flow within the project area.

Use the smaller public parking lot west of the Fishing Pier parking lot during closures. Lighthouse Beach Park and nearby amenities will stay open during the project.

Use caution in the area. Obey all posted signs and stay alert to construction and personnel.

These improvements are an important part of the City’s continuing Hurricane Ian recovery efforts. They are intended to improve visitor access, traffic circulation, and drainage in one of Sanibel’s most heavily used recreation areas. The project is a step forward in restoring and enhancing damaged public facilities and improving the visitor experience for residents and guests.
