The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company continues its monthly series on Florida residency, domicile status and estate planning with an educational seminar on June 20.
The “Domicile & Estate Planning” seminar explains how to establish Florida residency, domicile status and corresponding estate planning. The informational session begins with a presentation and Q&A session led by Trust Company team members along with guest presenter David M. Platt, P.A., a local estate planning attorney. Mr. Platt will also address estate planning questions attendees may have either in relation to domicile or otherwise.
Part-time and seasonal residents who spend more time in Southwest Florida often ask the firm’s professionals about their residency status, including questions about steps to protect their assets and how to maintain their domicile after being displaced by a hurricane.
“Florida residency is not Florida domicile, and many new Florida homeowners don’t realize this,” said Jeff Muddell, MBA, CFP, Sanibel president for The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company. “It’s extremely important when it comes to estate planning and the laws that govern it. We highly encourage anyone new to the state or planning to move here attend a domicile session to learn more.”
The Domicile Day seminar is on Thursday, June 20 from 11 am – Noon at the Trust Company’s Sanibel office, 2450 Periwinkle Way. The session will also be simulcast at the Trust Company’s new office in Fort Myers at 13525 Bell Tower Drive.
Seating is limited at both locations, and registration is required. $2 million in investable assets and higher. To register, contact Frances Steger at fsteger@sancaptrustco.com or 239-472-8300. The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company is also offering personalized, confidential consultations about Florida residency status, estate planning or wealth management needs.
The Trust Company’s next Domicile Day seminar is set for July 18.
