More than just a scenic showcase, the turquoise waters, white sand, and dazzling sunsets featured in Kingfisher Real Estate’s first-ever short video serve not only as a highlight reel of our beloved islands but also as a reminder of the uniqueness of the place that a tight-knit community calls home.

“The islands are absolutely magnificent, we have so much to offer…the resiliency is remarkable,” said Phaidra McDermott, owner of Kingfisher Real Estate. “So we really wanted to showcase that and instill positivity in guests who are looking to come visit and with us, as owners.”

“Because I think sometimes we go through our day-to-day life and we forget to look around. It was all about embracing the community and what we have here.”

McDermott, who produced and narrated the video, and her photographer began recording and piecing together this short glimpse into paradise last year. The video highlights what makes Sanibel and Captiva special, encouraging viewers to discover their island time – featuring clips of the islands’ native wildlife, recreation activities, dining experiences, and more.

The video will be shared with Kingfisher Real Estate homeowners and past and future guests of Kingfisher Vacation Rentals, as a part of McDermott’s goal to remind residents and guests alike of the islands’ uniqueness. This showcase can also be found posted on the Kingfisher Real Estate YouTube page.

“I’ve had a number of people say ‘Wow, you know, your video is fantastic,’ and then [they say that] coming over the causeway again this year, as we return to our property, it really helped us understand and remember why we love so much where we live,” she said.

McDermott said that, though they began the content-gathering process last year, the team decided to wait until this year to release the video. She said the energy on the island felt different the previous year, with businesses and residents focused on rebuilding after Hurricane Ian. She decided to hold off on releasing this display of the islands until this year.

“If I had released it last year, I don’t think the island would’ve been ready for it,” McDermott said. “We’re looking great, there’s so much positive forward momentum, and we’re going to be better than we ever were before, and I think it was time, because people are ready for it.”

After a challenging few years, McDermott is ready to turn her attention to the island’s bright and promising future and the excitement in the community that surrounds all the new beginnings.

The video serves as a testament to the community’s resilience, showcasing how the island is not just recovering but reimagining itself.

She said another development that coincides with this deliberate release date is the new condominiums, which are now available for visitors and have been rebuilt as part of the restoration efforts following Ian.

“It’s an exciting time because now we’re ready to welcome people, because we have somewhere for them to stay,” she said.

The video highlights a sampling of island activities and hotspots, featuring three resident island couples. “They’re all residents of the island. The three couples that are there are all different age groups, different demographics. It was a lot of fun because they’re like us, they live out here,” McDermott said.

With this video, she wanted to focus on capturing the audience’s attention in a short time frame – this meant narrowing the endless opportunities of eye-catching content down to just a few minutes of engaging clips.

“Our goal was to capture a sampling of different scenes around the island, different activities. I mean, there are so many things that we could have touched on, you know, the sky’s the limit, but we decided to really harness what we did,” McDermott said.

With the video already receiving amazing feedback, McDermott is looking forward to future projects that will continue to highlight the islands’ endless beauty. The team at Kingfisher, located at 2402 Palm Ridge Rd and 11528 Andy Rosse Lane, cannot wait to welcome residents and those who are looking for an island getaway back to the island.

“You know, you have so many thousands of people who know and love these islands,” she said. “And we’re ready to welcome them with open arms.”
