Lee County Emergency Management Introduces Two Systems

Lee County Emergency Management recently released two new systems to receive notifications in emergency situations. The first system is AlertLee, for those who sign-up to receive alerts free of charge. The second is LeePrepares, an application for Apple or Android devices to assist in preparing for and recovering from all types of disasters that may occur.

The City of Sanibel encourages all residents, property owners, business owners and island workers to download the LeePrepares App and sign-up for the notifications from AlertLee.

AlertLee is the county’s mass communication system that allows for rapid notifications pertaining to natural or man-made emergencies through different mediums, such as phone calls, text, e-mail and social media. It will be used in situations such as severe weather, missing persons, evacuation notices, fire or floods and active shooter. Registrants are given the opportunity to receive Sanibel specific alerts, as well.

AlertLee is administered through Lee County Emergency Management and replaces CodeRed as the official emergency notification system. Those who previously registered in CodeRed need to complete a new registration for AlertLee. For more information visit http://www.leegov.com/publicsafety/emergencymanagement/alerts.

The LeePrepares app includes the following sections: notifications, find my evacuation zone and active evacuations, shelter information, preparedness tools, after the disaster, AlertLee and local weather. It is available for download free of charge on Apple or Android devices. However, anyone with the LeeAlert app should update to automatically change to LeePrepares.
