May 16 ‘Domicile Day’ Seminar Explores Florida Residency, Estate Planning

The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company continues its monthly series on Florida residency, domicile status and estate planning with a seminar on Thursday, May 16. The “Domicile Day” seminar will take place simultaneously at the firm’s offices located at 13525 Bell Tower Dr., Fort Myers and 2450 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, beginning promptly at 11 a.m.

This informative session, which explains how to establish Florida residency, domicile status and corresponding estate planning will begin with a presentation and Q&A session led by Trust Company team members and guest presenter and local estate planning attorney, Jennifer Hammond, of Green, Shoenfeld & Kyle LLP.

Part-time or seasonal residents who spend more time in Southwest Florida often ask the firm’s professionals about their residency status, including questions about steps to protect their assets and how to maintain their domicile after being displaced by a hurricane.

“Florida residency is not Florida domicile,” said Megan Marquardt, CFP®, CFTA, Fort Myers president for The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company. “Many new Florida homeowners don’t realize that and it’s extremely important that they do when it comes to estate planning and the laws that govern it. We highly encourage anyone new to the state or planning to move here attend a domicile session to learn more.”

The next Domicile Day session is set for June 20.

The May 16 program will be simulcast from the Fort Myers office to the Sanibel office. Seating is limited at both locations, and reservations are required. $2 million in investable assets and higher. To register, contact Frances Steger at fsteger@sancaptrustco.com or 239-472-8300.

The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company is also offering personalized, confidential consultations about Florida residency status, estate planning or wealth management needs.
